I originally met Marvin Wynn after he backed one of my projects on kickstarter. We then connected on Facebook, where I found out he was working on his own comic book called The Edge. Since then I have seen him work hard and promote his comic book. So what better time than now to pick his brain, and find out what makes him tick.
For those that do not know you, what is your main focus as a creator, are you a writer, inker, penciler, publisher, letterer? I am the writer of the book.
What are you currently working on? My main focus is on The Edge.
How long have you been working on it? The original story was started in 1992.
What is The Edge about? Due to the sensitive nature of The Edge and its top secret classification not much is known about its origins. It is also unknown if any of the information is based on fact or fiction. It is to this day unclassified by the FDA. Without this classification it is difficult to categorize what The Edge is. It could be a steroid or an enhancement. Since the first “known” case of an Edge carrier, they have been known as the Enhanced. This name has stuck until this very day. So what does The Edge enhance? From the research that has been done over the years, The Edge appears too activate or perhaps re-activate a repressed genome. This genome enhances semi natural abilities that may or may not have been present in humans RNA. For now it is unknown why the genome is only activated in a small number of people. These abilities are not limited in their range, class, or destructive nature. Some abilities are only present through outward sources. Including but not limited to weapons and or vehicles.
Are you thinking about getting it in previews or crowd funding it? Yes, I’m trying to get the books into people’s hands anyway I can. Whether at cons, through diamond, or online stores. We were thinking of doing crowdfunding for the trade paper back only.
What else have you worked on? Only the story surrounding The Edge thus far.
Where can people find more of your work? https://www.facebook.com/The.Edge.Comic
Where would you like to see The Edge, 3 years from now? I want it to have been seen by as many people and in as many forms as possible.
What would you like to work on that you have not worked on yet? I have always wanted to write a story with Jim Lee’s The Grifter.
Do you still have a day job? Yes I do.
Many indie creators struggle with having to pay the bills with the day job while fighting to keep their dreams alive, how do you manage to get all your work done between that, comics and your personal life? I leave myself at least an hour or two during the week, and 4 hours on the weekend, to either think of an idea or script some store points.
If someone wants to meet you at a con, are there any that you attend regularly? 2016 will be the first touring season for The Edge.
Do you have any advice for the indie creators reading this? Never give up on your dream; keep plugging away it will be worth it in the end. Also try to surround yourself with positive and encouraging people if possible.
Before we go is there any thing you would like to add that I have not touched on? Want to throw some attention towards my Team Mark V Mk.V – Fiction/Fantasy Artist Jaymes Reed http://www.digital-caps.com/, Steven Lisefski Back of the Comic Shop FB, and the team at Scattered Comics for publishing The Edge http://scatteredcomics.com/.
